Return of the Mac: The Classic Coat To Wear This Fall (That No One Else Will)

If you were a fan of Britpop in the 90s, or you’ve seen a Burberry ad in the past, well, ever, you’ve no doubt seen our British cousins sporting a Mackintosh, aka the “Mac,” the parka-like raincoat worn more as an outer accessory than a vital necessity.  At least part of the time.  Since it’s creation in the early nineteenth century by a Scottish surgeon and later patented by its namesake, Charles Macintosh, the Mac has become as synonymous with casual YOB fashion, all the way up to being seen in High Street shops and the collections of Hermes, Louis Vuitton, and Cole Haan.

You’ve come a long way, baby.

The reason for such the popularity in Britain is due to the fact that the Mac is, above all a raincoat.  Yes, surprisingly enough, it rains a lot in England, and the people across the pond found something that’ll keep you dry and get you ready for Knebworth.  We’d be remiss if we wrote a piece on the Mac and failed to mention the Patron Saint of Macs, the man so indelibly associated with the Mac that we might as well call him Steve Fuckin’ Jobs, none other than part-time drunken boxer, jacket enthusiast, and occasional musician, Liam Gallagher, who has made wearing a Mac an art the way George Clooney wears a tuxedo.  Don’t believe us?  Check out our gallery below featuring Sir Liam and other sporting the best ways to wear your Mac, once you get one, that is.
